Right in the middle you say ? I don't agree with you.
With a rim diameter of 590mm, 650A is closer to the middle between the 622mm rimsize of 29" wheels and the 559mm rimsize of 26" wheels.
650B has been pushed at the front of the scene not because of a real intermediary size but just because of a movement of "frenchophilia" with the renewed interest for traditionnal randonneuses. I'm french so I guess my comment can't be suspected of xenophobism.
A 650A wheel might have interested me as I think 28" wheels are definitely too big on a MTB.
Anyway your site is interesting and I enjoy paying it a visit once in a while.
Cheers.

Mountain Bike Tires...

In fact, it’ s part of the reason I am ready to try a single speed. Gears add weight: front and rear derailleur, three chainrings, and nine sprockets. They also cost money, up front and for repairs- probably ninety percent of the repairs I’ ve had ...

Awesome. This makes me feel better about picking up a 650B wheelset. I'll be converting either my road bike (I'll be able to do full fenders w/o overlap! Maybe!) or an older rockhopper. If it ends up being good fun and fitting the need I foresee it filling, I'll look for a dedicated frame. It is great to have a source like this to check out.

I'm in Eugene, OR if anyone wants to try riding the conversion....
