Our Diggers@650b.com email received word from Grant of Rivendell about a new Schwalbe 650b pavement tire that became available this weekend over at Rivbike.com.  Schwalbe’s claimed 650b x 40mm with directional tread is perfect for commuters, long hauling, long wearing, riding.

From the measurements of Rivendell’s caliper the tire looks to be roughly 37mm.  Schwalbe never seems to be able to get their numbers right with width.  Weight according to Grant is 684g.  Not light, but this is a very durable tire.  The Schwalbe Marathon is known by touring, recumbent and commuters all over for being durable and I’m sure this 650b won’t let us down.  $40 a piece, go out fit your commuter with rubber that will probably outlast your bearings.
